Are you feeling discouraged or defeated with how life is going?

It can be really challenging trying to create an environment that allows you to flourish in NYC. It’s important to know that it is absolutely possible to thrive as a high-performing woman in New York City. 

Through a combination of skills, along with confidence, determination, and strategic planning- you are setting yourself up for success. 

Set Clear Goals

Define what success means to you and set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals. 

If it would be helpful, break down your goal into smaller parts to help it seem less daunting, write down the goal to have a physical reminder of what you’re working toward and share your goals with others to gain support. 

Having a clear vision for all of your goals will help you stay focused, motivated, and on track for your personal success.

Build a Strong Network

Networking is essential in NYC. From careers in the arts to the bustle of Wall Street, having personal and professional networks is incredibly valuable for high-performing women. 

Attending industry events, joining professional organizations, and connecting with like-minded individuals who can offer support, guidance, and potential career opportunities will help your career in NYC flourish. 

It also might be beneficial to find mentors who can provide valuable insights, advice, and guidance based on their experiences. 

Surround yourself with positive and supportive people who understand your journey and can provide guidance and encouragement. 

Specifically, look for successful women in your field who can offer support and help you navigate your career path.

Through collaborating with and supporting other women, you can create a powerful community that fosters success for everyone.

Be Assertive and Advocate for Yourself

There is a stigma that comes with women advocating for themselves- “She’s too aggressive,” or “She’s selfish.”

Asserting your needs and setting boundaries does not equate to aggression. Don’t be afraid to speak up and assert your ideas, opinions, and accomplishments. Take credit for your work and negotiate for promotions, salary increases, and opportunities. Learn to effectively communicate your value and contributions.

You are your best advocate- you know yourself and your needs better than anyone else.

Physical Health

One component of thriving in NYC is maintaining your physical health. Regular exercise not only improves physical health but also has significant mental health benefits. 

Find physical activities that you enjoy and incorporate them into your routine. This could include gym workouts, group classes, therapeutic yoga, or outdoor activities. 

Additionally, consider the food you’re putting into your body. How will you be able to flourish without adequate and balanced nutrition?

Work-Life Integration

Work-life integration is a little bit different than work-life balance. 

Work-life balance requires that your personal life and work be entirely separate entities. Work-life integration, however, allows us to find a peaceful coexistence between the two. 

Identify what truly matters to you and find ways to integrate your personal and professional life in a way that aligns with your values and goals.

Maintaining a healthy work-life integration is crucial for overall well-being. Prioritize self-care, set boundaries, and make time for activities outside of work that bring you joy and fulfillment.

Stay Resilient and Embrace Challenges

Remember, thriving as a high-performing woman in NYC requires perseverance.  

Recognize that setbacks and obstacles are part of the journey. Cultivate resilience and view challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. Stay persistent and adaptable, and don’t be discouraged by temporary setbacks.
